First Street Cafe OPEN MIC
Since Oct. 2008, First Street Cafe in Benicia has offered its wonderful Upstairs venue (great restaurant and wine bar with plenty of atmosphere) to a monthly Open Mic Night.   Now on a Saturday night from 8-11 pm, Open Mic has attracted a wide array of local area talent, from performers of all styles of music and levels of experience.  Open Mic is 'variety night' where you'll hear an eclectic mix of styles, including original music, fresh interpretations of covers, jazz, bluegrass, blues, easy rock, even classical guitar and piano.  Read on below to find out how it works and check out the photo slide show- allow a few seconds for it to load since there are several pictures.

How it works  Generally, each solo musician is given a 15 minute/3 song time slot.  When time permits, duos are allowed 20 minutes or so.  Trios that sign up in advance can reserve 30 minutes.  E-mail me at my general account db0315@sbcglobal.net.  I'll add you to my mailing list and send you a reminder about when the next open mics are and offer you the opportunity to reserve a slot, generally within about 10 days of the date.  I reserve about half of the available time in advance (up to 6 solos acts or fewer depending on if there are bigger acts that reserve in advance) and the rest of the time is left for walk -ins who sign up on the night of the Open Mic from 7:30-8pm.  As an incentive to stay until the end, all the musicians who are present at 11pm will be part of a name drawing for a 30 minute slot for the next Open Mic. ALL ages are welcome... First Street Cafe is a restaurant so under 21 is fine.

I bring my P.A.--great clean sound for acoustic instruments-- my piano, 3 microphones.  You bring your instrument, your accompaniest (if you are a vocalist) and your friends and family to cheer you on! Enjoy great food, non-stop music and meet some really cool musicians.  Join the party!
