Original Music

My next project will be to record a full CD of my original music.  My French music CD "Carte Postale" includes four original tracks that more or less fit into the jazzy style of the rest of the CD, but I have so many other songs in different styles.  Much of what I wrote in the last 10 years would be considered folk or pop.  People have often compared my vocals on original songs to Tori Amos, but maybe it's just the "girl with the piano" thing.  In general, I've always liked minimal arrangements because I believe a good song should be able to stand alone with only a piano or guitar.   Below are songs I'm currently working on; further down the page are some older tracks.  All songs, words and music by Deborah Kuhl unless otherwise indicated.  Lyrics and the stories behind the songs...

Here are links to some songs I am currently working on.

The recordings are either home digital recordings or done directly from an app on the I-pad.   You are welcome to listen to these works in progress, all written in 2011, with the exception of "Ruth" a tribute to my mom's sister, and only surviving member of her family.

Not Singing the Blues (I'm Saying Good bye to You)

Below are recordings of material I wrote while still living in France. These are home recordings but some have overdubbed vocals.  Black and White World with Pawel Walerowski was written when the war in Iraq started.  I was walking through the metro on my way to work at the US Embassy which at that time was surrounded by a security perimeter that included tanks. I was dismayed by the lack of depth in the political discourse at the time. Everything was either Black or White.  Click on the titles to download the tracks.
